According to SNL’s website, last updated on 8 March 2023, the picture is now deposited in the Norwegian Maritime Museum.
It has been revealed that despite strong protests, the picture was not found worthy of being displayed in the National Museum’s permanent exhibition. It is allegedly, bourgeois and imperialist and moreover painted by a (horribly) middle-aged northern European man.
So in the name of diversity, it has been relegated to the Maritime Museum, close to the Fram museum on Bygdøy.
The fact that it is a central work both for Krohg and for Norwegian painting around the turn of the last century certainly does not matter.
