Limburg is the first Dutch province to have a new government after the provincial election on 15 March. Limburg has long been critical of Rutte’s war against the farmers and the new coalition agreement confirms this.

The coalition parties state that they will not cooperate on forced expropriation of farms. On Friday, the coalition agreement “Elke Limburger Telt” was presented and there Limburg’s break with The Hague is confirmed:
The province of Limburg does not cooperate on forced expropriation to reach the nitrogen targets.

Limburg will focus on “stayers” and “starters”; people with a desire to stay in the agricultural sector and those who see a future in it. They will create a separate fund for farmers who want to modernise their farms to meet the emissions requirements and to stimulate innovation and sustainability. Completely new forms of agriculture and/or additional economic activity can also be supported by the fund.
We want to offer a perspective to people who want to find their future in agriculture, says leader Jasper Kuntzelaers of the social democratic Partij van de Arbeid.
With ten mandates in the provincial government, the farmers’ protest party BoerBurgerBeweging is the largest in Limburg. The coalition has 26 out of a total of 47 seats in the provincial council.
