The National Registry has approved an application from 22 July terrorist Anders Behring Breivik to change his name to Far Skaldigrimmr Rauskjoldr of Northriki.
Far Skaldigrimmr is registered as the first name and Rauskjoldr of Northriki as the surname, reports Aftenposten.
The name was a topic in the trial for parole in November last year when the judge asked Breivik what his name was. The convicted terrorist replied that he had applied to change his name again, but that it had not been approved by the National Registry.
Professor of Norwegian, Bernt Ø. Thorvaldsen, Professor of Norwegian at the University of Southeast Norway, told the newspaper that the name is not so easy to understand, but that it is reminiscent of Norse.
– I think it’s fair to say that the name is reasonably homespun, he says.
During the trial in November, a new expert assessment of Breivik’s mental health was presented for the first time since the trial twelve years ago. It concluded that the 45-year-old is not mentally ill.
In December, it became clear that the district court would not grant the petition for release. Breivik is appealing this decision.
Anders Behring Breivik has been convicted of the terrorist attacks in the Government Quarter and on Utøya island on 22 July 2011, in which he killed a total of 77 people. He has been sentenced to 21 years’ detention.
