On New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, the same thing happened as at the Christmas market in Magdeburg: A car ploughs through a crowd, leaving people dead and wounded. One of the eyewitnesses, Jimmy Cothrane, described what he saw:

“I mean, just the disfigurement and the bodies – it’s strong. It’s something you can’t forget. You’re never going to forget it. Right at our feet was definitely a mother. Twisted, obviously dead. We quickly counted around eight bodies in our area. One crushed man had tyre tracks on his back. When they rolled him over, there were tyre tracks on his front, he was completely crushed. Another girl, a young little girl, was dancing when we came up the street and she was completely flat in the centre, in the middle. Another woman was brutally run over, but it was still painful.

It was the same sight in Magdeburg. The authorities are cringing. They would rather look away, hoping it will pass. But it doesn’t.</p

The discussion is whether it’s a Texas native or an illegal who crossed the border two days ago. We observe that there are people online who want to spread confusion. But that it was an ISIS attack seems clear. Yet the FBI denied it at the press conference where the mayor said it was a terrorist attack.

The US has had several terrorist attacks where the perpetrator was part of the armed forces. One of the most sensational was Nidal Hassan at Fort Hood in Texas, who killed 13 of his colleagues and wounded over 30 on 5 November 2009. It caused Obama great embarrassment. He struggled to come to terms with it.

The question of infiltration arises. Nidal Hassan was a psychiatrist in the military. He had made no secret of his views, but his colleagues found it hard to take.</p

If Muslims who have made a career turn against the society that gave them the opportunities, we face new challenges, as they say. Who can be trusted? The very idea of questioning a Muslim’s trustworthiness makes all the politically correct people bristle. The authorities have manoeuvred themselves into this dilemma. They haven’t even wanted to be open about it.

The use of cars as weapons is suitable for spreading fear, just as ISIS wants.

Now we’ve had two attacks in a short time. But there have been many: Nice is not easily forgotten, nor Breitscheidsplatz in Berlin. All over the place: Panic, death and mutilation.</p

We can’t forget Ebba Åkerlund, who was cut in half by the car Rakhmat Akilov drove down Drottninggatan on 7 April 2017.

We’ve been there before. We’ve been there for a long time. And they never learn.
