A jury has found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carrol, the advice columnist in 1996, awarding her $5 million in a judgement that could haunt the former president as he campaigns to regain the White House.

A federal jury has convicted Trump of sexually assaulting Jean Carroll and defaming her because he denies raping her at a time in the 90s that she herself does not remember. Trump has made no secret of the fact that he finds the allegations ridiculous and his characterisation of her is slander.
