Senators were briefed Thursday by acting Secret Service chief Ronald Rowe on the results of the preliminary investigation into the Trump assassination. Senator Richard Blumenthal said people are going to be shocked when they hear the truth. It’s rare for Democrats to say things that backfire on the sitting president from their own party and also the vice president.

“I think the American people are going to be shocked, amazed and appalled by what we’re going to report to them about the failure of the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president,” Blumenthal told Fox News. “But I also think that they’re going to be appalled and stunned that the Department of Homeland Security hasn’t been more forthcoming, hasn’t been as forthright and honest as they should have been in providing them information.”

The Department of Homeland Security is above the Secret Service. They are said to have “leaned on” the Secret Service to prevent them from releasing material to Congress. Blumenthal may be signalling that this is a practice they will not tolerate, based on what has come out.
On Friday, one of the top executives in the Secret Service had to take his hat and leave.

One word that recurs in describing what happened on 13 July is complacency, another is incompetence. But a third is that the security gaps were deliberate.

Senator Josh Hawley has been in contact with several whistleblowers and they suggest it was a deliberate act that Thomas Matthew Croooks was let in. He was observed an hour and a half before shots were fired. He was walking around with a rangefinder.

That’s the same as showing what you intend to do.
