Ukraine has for the first time used long-range US missiles against targets in Russia. The Russians claim to have shot down five out of six missiles.

– A signal that they want escalation, says the Russian foreign minister, according to VG.

This comes just two days after Biden gave the go-ahead to use ATACMS missiles against targets on Russian soil. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the ATACMS missiles were used in the attack.

The Russians claim that they managed to shoot down five of the missiles with the S-400 air defence system and Pantsir. The sixth missile is said to have been damaged.

– This is a signal that they want an escalation, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the attack, before adding:

.– Putin has already issued his warnings.

Ukrainian media reports that the attack was against a military facility in the Bryansk region, about 130 kilometres from the border.

– It caused a lot of damage, a source in the Ukrainian defence told RBC-Ukraine.

The governor of Russia’s Bryansk region, Aleksandr Bogomaz, confirmed on Telegram the attack on Tuesday night. He claims, however, that it was a drone strike and that they were all shot down by Russian anti-aircraft fire.

Warns of more attacks

Kiev promises that there will be more attacks.

– The destruction of the ammunition stockpiles of the Russian occupiers will continue in order to stop Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, Ukraine’s defence leadership writes on Telegram.

Russia’s defence ministry reported earlier on Tuesday that it had destroyed 16 Ukrainian drones over Bryansk, while the Ukrainian air force accused Russia of firing 87 drones at Ukraine during the night. 51 of them were shot down, while 30 others disappeared from radar, according to the report.

The drone attacks resulted in eight people being killed and twelve wounded in the small Ukrainian town of Hlukhiv near the Russian border. Several of the victims are children (NTB-Reuters-TT)
