“When the frighteningly incompetent Trump becomes a stirrup holder for the enemies of the West, including the United States itself, there is only one answer: European unity,” said Michael Tetzschner, one of the grand old men of Høyre, in a speech at the conservatice party’s recent national conference at Gardermoen outside Oslo.
In the speech, Tetzschner took issue with Russia’s hybrid war against the West, which in his opinion has been going on for 15 years, he highlighted the need for closer rapprochement with the EU, and he criticized the Labor Party for protectionism in power politics.
Michael Tetzschner represented Oslo in the Storting, the parliament of Norway, for three terms from 2009 to 2021, and was the mayor of Oslo from 1989 to 1991.
He is married to Kristin Clemet, who has been both a representative of Høyre in the Storting and a cabinet minister in two governments, and today leads the think tank Civita, a kind of intellectual environment that is close to Høyre and has several associates who hate Donald Trump.
