During an anti-Trump rally in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, activist Greisa Martinez Rosas publicly declared that she is an “undocumented” immigrant, expressing that she was “fearless” about her immigration status and sexual orientation.
According to a report in the New York Post, Rosas, who has been a long-time activist for immigrant rights, said the following to those present at the rally:
“I am an immigrant, I am undocumented, fearless, queer and ashamed.”
The statements come at a time when protests against the Trump administration’s immigration and cost-cutting policies have spread across the US, according to Fox News.
Rosas is originally from Hidalgo, Mexico, but came to the US as a child and grew up in the Dallas area. She is now the director of United We Dream, a network for young immigrants.
Rosas’ remarks quickly spread on social media, where reactions were mixed.
According to the New York Post, several users on X made negative comments, including calls for deportation and arrest.
Others joked that her public declaration would likely catch the attention of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
