Irish bishops have expressed shock and horror at the stabbing of a military chaplain in Galway. The incident happened on Thursday, when Father Paul Murphy was stabbed multiple times outside the city’s Renmore Army Barracks by a 16-year-old teenager.
The 50-year-old priest managed to get in through the barracks gate, where he was administered first aid by on-duty personnel and then taken to the local university hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The teenager was immediately arrested and Irish police are now investigating the stabbing as a potential terrorist attack.

One bishop thought prayers should also be said for the attacker.</p

Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan of Waterford and Lismore strongly condemned the attack, but in a statement called for forgiveness and urged everyone to join in prayer, not only for Farther Murphy, but also for whoever is responsible for this act.

“We must come together, not only to support our wounded priest, but also to create an environment where such acts do not happen again,” he said. “Let’s engage in dialogue about how we can promote peace, understanding and respect among all people, regardless of their background or beliefs.”

.

Some might think that this inclusivity doesn’t work and that the stabbing is an example of that. The dialogue is not working.
